Kell, Meats & Co. was founded in Ross-on-Wye in 1838 to design and manufacture agricultural implements such as seed drills and horse drawn ploughs.

Moving to Gloucester in 1904, "Kell Meats & Co" was renamed "Kell & Co Ltd". Kell joined the Helipebs Group in 1955 and because of its foundry and machine shop activities; it quickly became a sub-contract supplier to well-known Gloucester firms such as Fielding & Platt, Bryce Berger, Gloucester Aircraft Company (GAC), Rank Xerox and Arca Controls to name a few.
Fatigue Testing Cylinder
Sub-contract work has its peaks and troughs and, by 1969, it was thought prudent to introduce a product range of our own, so Helipebs entered into a licence agreement with the Sheffer Corporation of Cincinnati to produce a range of imperial hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders under the name of Helipebs Controls Ltd. In due course, a similar range of metric cylinders was designed for the mould and tool industry.
Helipebs has always had a name for quality industrial products and in the past 20 years has been frequently approached to design bespoke cylinders for use in arduous operating conditions from subsea oil and gas; aerospace and Formula 1 fatigue testing; pharmaceuticals and green energy (wave and wind power).
A range of welded cylinders will soon be available to complement our tie rod cylinders.
The introduction of shot blasting, painting and powder coating facility under the name Helipebs Metal Finishing Ltd. has created a lot of local interest.
