Helipebs are once again proud to be one of the sponsors of the Cheltenham North 35th annual Christmas Carol Concert.
The December 2012 concert was held at a new venue in the very grand Princess Hall of Cheltenham Ladies’ College, and was compered by Nicholas Parsons, star of Radio, theatre and TV fame, who began his working life as an engineering apprentice in the harsh world of the Clydeside shipyards, where he worked for five years. He went on to Glasgow University but gave up engineering to become an entertainer.
Laurence Kilsby, a Tewkesbury Abbey chorister, has been hailed as one of the best choristers of his generation. He has sung in front of the Queen at St Paul’s Cathedral at her Diamond Jubilee, and was BBC Chorister of the Year 2009. He opened the programme by singing the first verse of ‘Once in Royal David’s City’ and later sang the snowman song ‘Walking in the Air’.
Leckhampton Church of England Primary School entertained with two choirs; the Junior Years 3 to 5 Choir and the older Year 6 Choir. They were accompanied by a very talented pupil who played the piano.
An extensive and varied repertoire of songs was also provide by the ‘Gotherington Singers’ and the ‘Gloucestershire Police Male Voice Choir’.
